Canada has undertaken a number of measures this year to emphasize the importance of Francophone and bilingual immigration to the country, outside of Quebec.
Among these measures include:
- Committing to increased growth of Francophone immigration targets outside of Quebec, which will grow (within immigration levels) from 6% this year, to 7% in 2025, and 8% in 2026;
- Establishing a new immigration pilot and direct pathway to permanent residence (PR) for Francophone students who plan on studying and residing in Francophone minority communities in Canada, outside of Quebec; and
- Expanding the list of eligible communities within the Francophone Communities Initiative (FCI), to 14 communities outside of Quebec. The FCI aims to support the settlement and integration of Francophone newcomers to Canada by working with local communities to support their transition to Canadian life.
